Olen yritt\u00e4nyt sulatella viime viikonlopun Ronneburgin reissua niin, ett\u00e4 osaisin jotenkin pukea sen kaiken pakahduttavan ihanuuden sanoiksi. Sanat eiv\u00e4t oikein riit\u00e4 – sen toteaminen ett\u00e4 reissulla oli mahtavaa, tuntuu melkein lattealta. Mit\u00e4 viikonloppuna sitten oikeastaan tehtiin?<\/p>\n

Lensimme iloisten r\u00e4\u00e4t\u00e4leiden Rikun ja Mervin kanssa Saksaan painorajoja uhkaavien pakaasien kanssa. Perill\u00e4 meit\u00e4 is\u00e4nn\u00f6iv\u00e4t ja em\u00e4nn\u00f6iv\u00e4t ylenpalttisesti Turun markkinoilta tutut Ronnie ja Taija.<\/p>\n

Asuimme viikonlopun linnassa, nukuimme olkipatjoilla yhdess\u00e4 sen monista saleista. Ikkunasta kantautui sek\u00e4 haukan ett\u00e4 riikikukon kiljahtelua. P\u00e4iv\u00e4t vietimme kukin omassa ty\u00f6pisteess\u00e4mme: Riku teki puut\u00f6it\u00e4 pihalla muiden puuseppien kanssa, Mervi p\u00e4\u00e4si t\u00f6ihin linnan upeaan keitti\u00f6\u00f6n ja min\u00e4 tein ompeluhommia yhdess\u00e4 linnan kauneimmista saleista. Olin my\u00f6s kaksi kertaa mallina muotin\u00e4yt\u00f6ksess\u00e4. P\u00e4iv\u00e4saikaan linnaan p\u00e4\u00e4si turisteja tutustumaan keskiajan el\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n, mutta iltaisin meill\u00e4 oli linna omassa k\u00e4yt\u00f6ss\u00e4mme.<\/p>\n

Lauantai-iltana kaikki tapahtumassa olleet harrastajat (noin 50, kuudesta eri maasta) kokoontuivat kauniiseen saliin, jossa s\u00f6imme linnan keitti\u00f6ss\u00e4 avotulella valmistettua herkullista ruokaa.<\/p>\n

Tietysti linna antoi kaikelle ihanat ja suomalaisesta n\u00e4k\u00f6kulmasta harvinaiset puitteet, mutta lopulta parasta (niinkuin usein ennenkin) olivat kuitenkin ihmiset. Oli huippua p\u00e4\u00e4st\u00e4 tutustumaan niin moniin samasta asiasta kiinnostuneisiin, jotka toteuttivat osaamistaan pieteetill\u00e4 ja taidolla. Ja siis mit\u00e4 timanttisia tyyppej\u00e4! Suurin osa on t\u00e4ysin uusia tuttavuuksia, osa tuttuja verkon kautta: jos ei blogeista niin kiinnostavista tapahtumakuvista.<\/p>\n

Nyt p\u00e4\u00e4simme itse mukaan tapahtumaan ja p\u00e4\u00e4dyimme samoihin kuviin. Juteltiin, ommeltiin, opittiin toisiltamme\u00c2\u00a0 ja naurettiin yhdelle sun toiselle jutulle. Oli mahtavaa sujahtaa semmoiseen yhteenkuuluvuuden tilaan ja yhteishenkeen ennalta tuntemattomien kanssa. Meiss\u00e4 kaikissa on jotain samaa.<\/p>\n

Mutta t\u00e4ss\u00e4 k\u00e4y niinkuin usein t\u00e4m\u00e4n keskiaikaharrastuksen kanssa: suuri osa j\u00e4\u00e4 kertomuksen ulkopuolelle. Voin yritt\u00e4\u00e4 kertoa milt\u00e4 tuntuu istua linnan salissa penkill\u00e4 ompelemassa savun kantautuessa keitti\u00f6st\u00e4, mutta oikeastaan asian ymm\u00e4rt\u00e4\u00e4 t\u00e4ysin vain kokemalla.<\/p>\n

I’ve been trying to digest last weekend in all its awesomeness, trying to find a way to put it all into words. Words do fail sometimes – saying it was lovely seems bleak in comparison to my experience.<\/p>\n

So, what did we do over the weekend?<\/p>\n

Me, Mervi and Riku flew over to Germany with luggage up to the limit. Once there, we were welcomed and hosted splendidly by our hosts par excellance, Ronnie and Taija of MiM.<\/p>\n

We spent the weekend living in the castle, sleeping on straw matrasses in one of the many halls of the castle. Outside, peacocks and hawks made squeaky sounds. We spent the days stationed at our designated working areas: Riku with the carpenters, Mervi in the fab castle kitchen and me doing textile stuff with the other leather- and textile people. I also modeled twice in a fashion show they had for tourists. The tourists could visit during daytime, but in the evenings we had the castle to ourselves.<\/p>\n

On Saturday evening we all gathered to the hall for a fantastic meal, all cooked on an open fire in the castle kitchen. And by all I mean about 50 people from 6 different countries.<\/p>\n

The castle provided a beautiful and real setting (and one that is very rare from a Finnish perspective), but in the end, what made it so special were the people. It’s the people that make the mood and the atmosphere. And what fantastic people they were! It was so cool to get to know people that share the same interests and pursue them with such skill, knowledge and precision. Most of these people I have never met before. Some I know via the web – either from blogs or inspiring event photos.<\/p>\n

And now we got to be at the event and end up in the same photos. We chatted, sewed, learned from each other and laughed together. It was great to slip into such togetherness and comfort with people that had been strangers before. We have something profound in common. Thank you everyone.<\/p>\n

I still feel I do fail in sharing all the things that made it one of my top weekends ever. But it’s not the first time in this hobby.\u00c2\u00a0 I can try to explain what it is like to sit and sew by a window in a castle, smelling the smoke drifting in from the kitchen – but – to fully understand what it feels like to be there, you’ll have to try it for yourself.<\/p>\n

Kaikissa saksalaisissa linnoissa tuntuu olevan pakosti ”kidutuskammio” jota siis h\u00e4din tuskin miss\u00e4\u00e4n linnoissa on ollut oikeasti, mutta tuntuu olevan muotia rakentaa se sinne turistien iloksi. Sinne oli tietenkin pakko menn\u00e4 h\u00f6lm\u00f6ilem\u00e4\u00e4n.<\/p>\n

It seems like every castle in Germany has a ”torture chamber” although hardly any places really had them, they have been built to amuse tourists. We of course had to go there to fool around.<\/p>\n
