Vietin viime viikonlopun huisin kivassa tapahtumassa. Mainioiden ihmisten ymp\u00e4r\u00f6im\u00e4n\u00e4, k\u00e4sit\u00f6iden, hyv\u00e4n ruoan, laulun ja juoman merkeiss\u00e4. Ei p\u00f6ll\u00f6mp\u00e4\u00e4.<\/p>\n

Viikonlopun kohokohta oli visiitti Euran Nauravaan lohik\u00e4\u00e4rmeeseen<\/a>, joka on esihistorian opastuskeskus. Se opastaa k\u00e4vij\u00e4ns\u00e4 kiinnostavalla tavalla rautakauden el\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n, josta seudulle on j\u00e4\u00e4nyt runsaasti todisteita. Kuuluisin niist\u00e4 on tietenkin Euran puku.<\/a><\/p>\n

Erityismaininta keskukselle tulee pystykangaspuista joilla sai kutoa! Yleens\u00e4h\u00e4n museoissa on houkuttelevia kangaspuita, joissa kuitenkin lukee, ettei saa koskea. (Mink\u00e4 kyll\u00e4 ymm\u00e4rr\u00e4n, koska riski systeemien totaalisesta solmuuntumisesta on merkitt\u00e4v\u00e4.) Mutta olipa kivaa p\u00e4\u00e4st\u00e4 v\u00e4h\u00e4n kutomaan! Se on rentouttavaa ja todella koukuttavaa. Kangaspuista irtautuminen oli\u00c2\u00a0yht\u00e4 vaikeaa kuin\u00c2\u00a0pallomerest\u00e4 nouseminen\u00c2\u00a0viisivuotiaalle.<\/p>\n

Karvaiset tippetit eiv\u00e4t muuten ole k\u00e4tevin mahdollinen asu kutomiseen. Melkein kudoin itseni kiinni kankaaseen. Mutta sittenp\u00e4h\u00e4n ei olisi ollut pakko p\u00e4\u00e4st\u00e4\u00e4 irti puista!<\/p>\n

Euran puvusta ja arkeologisten l\u00f6yt\u00f6jen pohjalta tehdyist\u00e4 ennallistuksista kiinnostuneille meill\u00e4 oli aivan mainio opas, yksi paikallisista Euran puvun ennallistamisessa mukana olleista naisista. Oli kiinnostavaa kuulla prosessista, kokeiluista \u00c2\u00a0ja pohdinnoista, jotka johtivat nykyiseen tulkintaan. N\u00e4yttelyn vitriiniss\u00e4 oli liuta pikkuakkoja, jotka esitteliv\u00e4t erilaisia tulkintoja matkan varrelta.<\/p>\n

Parasta oli p\u00e4\u00e4st\u00e4 kyselem\u00e4\u00e4n, ett\u00e4 mitenk\u00e4s te silloin teittek\u00e4\u00e4n.\u00c2\u00a0 Minua kiinnosti tiet\u00e4\u00e4 muun muassa se, ett\u00e4\u00c2\u00a0vaippahameen v\u00e4rj\u00e4yksess\u00e4 oli koivunlehtien lis\u00e4ksi k\u00e4ytetty indigoliemen (jolla alusmekko v\u00e4rj\u00e4ttiin) j\u00e4lkiv\u00e4rj\u00e4yst\u00e4. Vitriiniss\u00e4 esill\u00e4 ollut Euran puvun ”virallisen” ennallistuksen ensiversiossa huomaa tummemman, siniseen vivahtavan s\u00e4vyn, jota ei uudemmissa versioissa mielest\u00e4ni n\u00e4e.<\/p>\n

Mukaan tarttui Lehtosalo-Hilanderin kirja, josta voin opiskella lis\u00e4\u00e4. Nyt saadaan n\u00e4hd\u00e4 kauan pystyn viel\u00e4 vastustamaan orastaavaa mielihalua tehd\u00e4 rautakautinen asu.<\/p>\n

Last weekend was spent at a really nice event with crafts, good food, wonderful people, wine and song. Not bad at all.<\/p>\n

A special treat was visiting the Laughing Dragon<\/a>, a prehistory guidance center in Eura. It introduces visitors to life in prehistoric Finland. There are a lot of finds from Eura, the most famous of which is the Eura dress (pdf)<\/a>.<\/p>\n

A special perk was that the museum had set up a warp-weighted loom that one could weave on! Museums often display looms, but they are usually disappointingly off limits to visitors (which is understandable and reasonable, since visitors could easily mess the weave up totally). But boy what fun it was to get to weave a bit! It is relaxing and highly addictive. Letting go of the loom was about as easy as getting out of one of those splendid ball pits is for a five year-old.<\/p>\n

A mental note: fur-lined tippets are not the most practical weaving outfit. I almost wove myself into the weave. But then again, if I had, they could not have made me leave the loom! Ha!<\/p>\n

I would really want a warp-weighted loom. Just a few obstacles to be dealt with: how to fit one in our apartment, convince the spouse to that this is a great idea AND make the cats leave the tempting warp weights alone. Hmm…<\/p>\n

We had an excellent tour guide, a real treat for a group with a special interest in the recreation of ancient and archaeological costume. She was one of the local women that had participated in the recreation process of the Eura dress, along with the researchers. It was really interesting to hear about the process and the thoughts, experiments and theories that led to the current interpretation of the dress. There was a display of precise small scale models wearing different interpretations.<\/p>\n

The best part was getting the chance to ask how they did what back then. I thought it was really interesting to know that the overdress was dyed not only with birch leaves but it had also been placed in the afterdye of the indigo bath that was used to dye the underdress. The indigo hue is clearly visible in the first version of the dress, which is slightly darker than the ”official” colours of the newer versions of the dress.<\/p>\n

I bought a book on the dress (by Lehtosalo-Hilander). Now we’ll just have to see if I can fight the urge to make one.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
