Astonishment!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Aloittaessani Neulakon tein toimituksellisen p\u00e4\u00e4t\u00f6ksen julkaisun linjasta. P\u00e4\u00e4tin etten mene harrastuksen sellaisiin yksityiskohtiin, jotka eiv\u00e4t avaudu helposti. Esimerkiksi en uppoudu detaljeihin harrastuksen paikoista, tavoista, eri seurojen sis\u00e4isist\u00e4 jutuista ja muusta sellaisesta. Ihan siksi ett\u00e4 k\u00e4yn erilaisissa jutuissa ja etten kyll\u00e4styt\u00e4 hengilt\u00e4 osaa lukijoista.<\/p>\n<p>Se on ollut hyv\u00e4 ratkaisu, sill\u00e4 lukijoita on ymm\u00e4rt\u00e4\u00e4kseni kovin erilaisista l\u00e4ht\u00f6kohdista. Ymp\u00e4ri maailmaa, osa keskiajan, osa k\u00e4sit\u00f6iden harrastajia. Aion pit\u00e4yty\u00e4 tutussa linjassa &#8211; kunhan saan t\u00e4m\u00e4n jutun kerrottua.<\/p>\n<p>Torstaina tein lautanauhaa mekon vahvikkeeksi ja selasin puolihuolimattomasti meilej\u00e4 toisella k\u00e4dell\u00e4. Kunnes bongasin eurooppalaiselle listalle meililipsahduksen kautta tulleen uutisen, joka piti lukea kahteen kertaan.<\/p>\n<p>Min\u00e4 (tai joku samanniminen, mutta tarkistin ettei se ollut) tulen Laakeriseppeleen ritarikunnan j\u00e4seneksi eli fingliskaksi laureliksi tapahtumassa marraskuun viimeisen\u00e4 viikonloppuna! \u00c3\u201ellistys!! Kujerrus!!!<\/p>\n<p>Kyseess\u00e4 on jonkin verran kansainv\u00e4lisesti tunnettu seuran sis\u00e4inen k\u00e4sity\u00f6prenikka, jota on v\u00e4h\u00e4n vaikea selitt\u00e4\u00e4. Koko jutun suuruutta kuvaa se, ett\u00e4 tapahtumaan marraskuussa on tulossa sit\u00e4 varten kavereita Suomen lis\u00e4ksi Irlannista, Saksasta ja Ruotsista ainakin. Puhumattakaan siit\u00e4 ett\u00e4 yst\u00e4v\u00e4t t\u00e4\u00e4ll\u00e4 vaikuttavat olevan ihanasti innoissaan ja min\u00e4 kaiken keskell\u00e4 olen edelleen hieman p\u00f6ll\u00e4mystynyt. Olen yht\u00e4 aikaa h\u00e4keltynyt, kiitollinen ja aivan valtavassa j\u00e4nn\u00e4ss\u00e4. Ja liikuttunut niiden viestien sis\u00e4ll\u00f6st\u00e4 joita olen saanut t\u00e4h\u00e4n menness\u00e4.<\/p>\n<p>T\u00e4st\u00e4 tulee kivaa! Selk\u00e4ni takana kihelm\u00f6iv\u00e4n salaper\u00e4isest valmisteltavien juhlien j\u00e4lkeen olen mestarisnainen ja varmana otan oppilaita yms. Mutta muuten siis business as usual. K\u00e4sit\u00f6it\u00e4, museoita, tapahtumia, kirjoja ja ohjeita. I decided to try to keep out those details of the hobby that aren&#8217;t really of general interest or easy to understand for those not involved.\u00c2\u00a0 This mostly applies to details about the places, groups and ways in which I practice this hobby. I try to leave out group specific internal stuff just because I go to and do different stuff and generally don&#8217;t want to bore some of my readers to death.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve been happy with this decision since as far as I know I have readers not only from different countries but from different interests. Some are interested in history, others in crafts. I&#8217;ll stick to this principle again once I have shared this one story with you.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday I was weaving a tablet woven band to go on my new moy bog style dress as reinforcement (more on the moy process to come) and casually reading my email. Then I spotted a little email slip on a european list I&#8217;m on. I had to read it a couple of times.<\/p>\n<p>It seems that I will be elevated to the Order of the Laurel on the last weekend of November! Suprise!! Astonishment! Squee!<\/p>\n<p>So I&#8217;m getting this recognition in the field of arts that is kind of hard to put into general terms. The magnitude I guess is best represented by the fact that wonderful people from Ireland, Sweden and Germany are booking tickets and flying over just to be there. And not to mention the lovely buzz this has my darling friends in. I am in the middle of this and very astonished and still a little out of it. I&#8217;m surprised, moved, thankful and very pleasantly excited. And sort of emotional from all the feedback I&#8217;ve gotten in the past few days.<\/p>\n<p>This will be cool! After the mischeviously and secretively planned festivities are done with, I&#8217;ll get to take on students and other fun stuff. And also the business as usual: museums, projects, books, events and inspiration. No need to change any of that, eh?<\/p>\n<p>But thi<em>s naturally<\/em> calls for new clothing!<\/p>\n<p>And now to more normal stuff, where a lot of astonishingly good stuff has happened too:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A lot of you have asked where to get embroidery frames like mine and now I can point you to\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/lankadontti.fi\/wordpress\/?p=219\"> Lankadontti.<br \/>\n<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tammi.fi\/kirjat\/ISBN\/9789513155940\/alue\/902,914\/navi\/Uutuudet\/navi2\/9006\/#\">Maikki  Karisto&#8217;s book on tablet weaving <\/a>is out (in Finnish). It is thorough and pretty to look at.
