On ollut vaikea malttaa kirjoittaa kun olen niin kovalla touhulla tehnyt uutta Moy-mekkoani. Moy-mekko on nimelt\u00e4\u00e4n Moy-mekko, koska sen esikuva on l\u00f6ydetty Moyn suosta Irlannista. Homma on haastavaa siksi, ettei t\u00e4st\u00e4 mekosta ole julkaistu kirjaa. Onneksi siit\u00e4 on verkossa aika paljon harrastajien hankkimaa arvokasta tietoa<\/a>. Niill\u00e4 menn\u00e4\u00e4n!<\/p>\n

Monet ovat tehneet mekon hieman erikoisesta yl\u00e4osasta kaavan mekkoa tehdess\u00e4\u00e4n, mutta ajattelin itse tarttua v\u00e4h\u00e4n toiseen l\u00e4hestymistapaan. Teen ensin mekon vartalo-osan ja sitten hihat. Istutan hihat\u00c2\u00a0 asiankuuluvasti ja sitten leikkaan ylim\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4isen pois. T\u00e4ss\u00e4 on suunnitelma t\u00e4h\u00e4n asti. Tuntuu v\u00e4h\u00e4n anarkistiselta menn\u00e4 heti villan kimppuun, mutta hyvin se on t\u00e4h\u00e4n asti mennyt.<\/p>\n

Mekossa on paljon v\u00e4hemm\u00e4n saumaa kuin Herjolfsnesin mallin mukaan tehdyiss\u00e4 mekoissa – sit\u00e4 my\u00f6t\u00e4 v\u00e4hemm\u00e4n\u00c2\u00a0 mutta silti riitt\u00e4v\u00e4sti helmaa. Sen hyv\u00e4 puoli on keveys, jota vuorittamattomuus korostaa entisest\u00e4\u00e4n.<\/p>\n

N\u00e4iden kuvien j\u00e4lkeen olen leikannut kaula-aukon,\u00c2\u00a0 k\u00e4\u00e4nt\u00e4nyt saumaa, tehnyt silkkiny\u00f6rin metallik\u00e4rjell\u00e4, vahvistanut ja huolitellut kaula-aukkoa ja ny\u00f6rityksen paikkaa. Nyt mekko on t\u00f6kitty t\u00e4yteen paksuhkojoa sukkapuikkoja, jotka venyttelev\u00e4t ny\u00f6rinreiki\u00e4. Kohta alkaa olla hihojen kaavoituksen aika!<\/p>\n

I’ve found it hard to concentrate on blogging when I’ve been so busy working on my Moy bog dress. The dress is named after an Irish bog, where the original piece was found. There is unfortunately no literature available on the dress, but fortunately there is quite some valuable info<\/a> online that has been compiled by re-enactors and other aficionados.<\/p>\n

A lot of people that have made a similar dress have made a mockup to draft a pattern for the top part of the dress. I decided to try another route. I’ll make the dress and the sleeves and then fit them to each other and so far at least my logic says that should result in a similar result than drafting a separate pattern and working from that. It seems slightly anarchistic to hit the wool to begin with, but this far it has gone well.<\/p>\n

After these pictures were taken I’ve cut out the neckline, reinforced it and the front opening,\u00c2\u00a0 made a silk lace with a brass tip and finished quite a few seams. Right now the dress is poked full of knitting needles that are stretching the lacing holes open. (I decided to make a laced dress instead of a buttoned up one) Soon it’ll be time to move on to making the sleeves!<\/p>\n

The pics illustrate various phases in the making of the dress. As you can see in them, there really is no shoulder seam, but the seam is placed lower, on the chest. Compared to the Herjolfsnes patterns this has a lot less seams, a little less hem and what feels most important – it is a lot lighter, especially since it isn’t lined.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
