Suunnitelmat fantastisesta kuvasessiosta j\u00e4iv\u00e4t toteuttamatta, koska oli kiire hengata kaikkien mahtavien tyyppien kanssa ja h\u00e4s\u00e4t\u00e4 yht\u00e4 sun toista. (Hauskaa kyll\u00e4 oli! ) Lopputuloksena \u00c2\u00a0jakoon on laitettavissa vain kiireess\u00e4 n\u00e4pp\u00e4isty kuva hassulla taustalla, jossa tietenkin viel\u00e4 h\u00f6lm\u00f6ilen.<\/p>\n

Besantit mekossa \/ Bezants on the dress<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Mutta ainakin siin\u00e4 n\u00e4kyy keskiajan bling bling eli uutukaiset besantit. Ne ovat pienempi\u00e4 kuin monet edellisest\u00e4 kuvasta p\u00e4\u00e4tteliv\u00e4t, mutta n\u00e4kyv\u00e4t koostaan huolimatta yll\u00e4tt\u00e4v\u00e4n pitk\u00e4lle.\u00c2\u00a0 Ja kynttil\u00e4nvalossa ne n\u00e4ytt\u00e4v\u00e4t juuri niin hienolta kuin ajattelinkin. Niit\u00e4 on mekossa sek\u00e4 edess\u00e4 ett\u00e4 takana.<\/p>\n

Besanttiprojektin tutkimushaasteena oli sen keksiminen, mihin niit\u00e4 laittaa ja miten.\u00c2\u00a0 Keskiaikaisissa vaatteissa besantteja tuntuu olleen muutamalla eri tavalla: aseteltuna riveiksi\u00c2\u00a0tai\u00c2\u00a0reunoiksi seuraamaan vaatteiden muotoa (esim. reunaa), j\u00e4rjestettyn\u00e4 aseltemiksi (esim. metallista tehdyt possubesantit sy\u00f6m\u00e4ss\u00e4 besanttiomenoita kirjotun puun katveessa) tai sitten\u00c2\u00a0ik\u00e4\u00e4nkuin ripoteltuna vaatteen pinnalle.<\/p>\n

Valitsin j\u00e4lkimm\u00e4isen vaihtoehdon ihan koristeiden m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4n, koon ja\u00c2\u00a0tyypin takia. Isommat koristeet olisin ehk\u00e4\u00c2\u00a0laittanut kaula- ja hiha-aukkoja mukailemaan tai keskelle riviksi.<\/p>\n

Kiehtovien detaljien\u00c2\u00a0saralla\u00c2\u00a0l\u00f6ysin my\u00f6s maininnan s\u00e4\u00e4nn\u00f6st\u00e4,\u00c2\u00a0jonka mukaan\u00c2\u00a0besantit tuli kiinnitt\u00e4\u00e4 niin, ett\u00e4 niiden taakse saattoi katsoa (ts. vain yhdest\u00e4 kulmasta) tarkistaakseen oliko ne tehty siit\u00e4 metallista mist\u00e4 niiden sanottiin olevan tehty. T\u00e4m\u00e4 esti sen, ettei kullattuja besantteja myyty kokokultaisina jne. N\u00e4m\u00e4 pienet lehdet tuli joka tapauksessa ommeltua vain yhdest\u00e4 kohdasta,\u00c2\u00a0mutta t\u00e4ss\u00e4kin suhteessa meni siis tavallaan ihan oikein. :)<\/p>\n

Kirjotut pussit ovat my\u00f6s keskiajan bling blingi\u00e4 ja luksusta ihan jo vaatimansa ty\u00f6m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4n perusteella. Meill\u00e4 oli tapahtumassa t\u00e4ll\u00e4iset kirjontakehysten kokoontumisajot – aivan todella ihania projekteja ihmisill\u00e4 on tuloillaan!<\/p>\n

The usual happened with the grand plans of having an actual photoshoot at the event. I was too busy hanging around with all the fantastically interesing people and doing all sorts of things (and having a really good time too!).\u00c2\u00a0 So in the end, the only picture of the dress with the bezants is the one above: taken in a hassle, with an odd background and to top it off: with me goofing around.<\/p>\n

But at least you can see medieval bling aka the bezants! They’re much smaller than many people thought after seeing the pictures in the previous post. Despite their size, they are very visible on the dress. And in the candlelight, they look just as nice as I expected. There are bezants both on the front and on the back of the dress.<\/p>\n

The research challenge (after actually aquiring the bezants) was in trying to figure out how I should place them. Bezants seem to have been placed on the garment in several different ways: set as lines or along edges on a garment (following the shape of a neckline, for an example), set as some kind of scene (like with a scene with a bezant pig eating an apple shaped bezant under an embroidered tree) or just sprinkled about the garment. I chose the latter because it fitted the type of bezants I had. Had they been bigger I may have opted for lining the neckline or setting them in a row somewhere on the dress.<\/p>\n

One rather fascinating detail that came up in the material I read was that there was a sumptuary law stating that bezants should be sewn on only from one point, so that the other side could easily be checked. This was to ensure that they were made out of the metal they were said to be, i.e. so that gilded bezants would not be sold as solid gold. The little leaves are designed to be sewn on from just one point (the loop at the top) so in this case this rule was easily obeyed. :)<\/p>\n

Embroidered bags are also medieval bling and luxury. Over the weekend we had a little roundup of embroidery frames – people have such lovely things coming up, just look at the fantastic embroidery projects they’re working on!<\/p>\n

And as for the title, it’s actually a rip-off from a very interesting exhibition in Aboa Vetus<\/a> in Turku, opening in October.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
