Luento oli aika lyhyt, eik\u00e4 sin\u00e4ns\u00e4 tarjonnut kovinkaan paljoa uutta jos oli lukenut Klemettil\u00e4n mainion<a href=\"http:\/\/www.hanneleklemettila.fi\/3\"> opuksen<\/a> keskiajan keitti\u00f6st\u00e4 (Sen 2.painos on juuri ilmestynyt) tai muita hyvi\u00e4 keskiajan keitti\u00f6t\u00e4 k\u00e4sittelevi\u00e4 kirjoja.<\/p>\n<p>Omissa ruuanlaittokokeiluissani olen k\u00e4ytt\u00e4nyt aika paljon my\u00f6s t\u00e4t\u00e4 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Medieval-Kitchen-Recipes-France-Italy\/dp\/0226706842\">keittokirjaa.<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0 Selkeit\u00e4 ohjeita, mutta vieraita mittayksik\u00f6it\u00e4. Siin\u00e4 on my\u00f6s hyv\u00e4t viitteet alkuper\u00e4isiin resepteihin, Klemettil\u00e4n kirjassa saa hetken p\u00e4hki\u00e4, jos haluaa selvitt\u00e4\u00e4 mik\u00e4 resepti on mist\u00e4kin kotoisin.<\/p>\n<p>Luennosta tarttui p\u00e4\u00e4h\u00e4n pieni\u00e4 anekdootteja, kuten se ett\u00e4 paastop\u00e4ivi\u00e4 oli vuodessa noin 140 ja ett\u00e4 suolakalassa saattoi olla kolmannes suolaa. Suolakalaa ei tietenk\u00e4\u00e4n sy\u00f6ty sellaisenaan suoloineen p\u00e4ivineen, vaan k\u00e4siteltyn\u00e4. Yksi keskiaikaruokamyytti josta haluaisin eroon on: <em>&#8221;Keskiajalla ihmiset s\u00f6i t\u00f6rkeen suolasta ruokaa ja siksi joi hirveesti olutta ja oli koko ajan k\u00e4nniss\u00e4.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Kiinnostavin mieleen j\u00e4\u00e4nyt ajatus oli huomion kiinnitt\u00e4minen suuriin yht\u00e4l\u00e4isyyksiin eri maissa s\u00e4ilyneiden reseptikirjojen tarjonnassa. Klemettil\u00e4 painotti sit\u00e4 ett\u00e4 my\u00f6s ruuanlaitossa vaikutteet kulkivat niin, ett\u00e4 yht\u00e4l\u00e4isyyksi\u00e4 on h\u00e4mm\u00e4stytt\u00e4v\u00e4n paljon. Eli uskaltaa siis ajatella, ett\u00e4 kirjojen reseptien kaltaista ruokaa olisi sy\u00f6ty paremmissa piireiss\u00e4 esim. Ruotsissa.<\/p>\n<p>T\u00e4ll\u00e4 viikolla Neulakossa on ollut suurensuuri k\u00e4vij\u00e4rynt\u00e4ys, kun <a href=\"http:\/\/m-silkwork.blogspot.com\/2009\/03\/random.html\">Neulakkoa kehuttiin Medieval Silkworkissa<\/a>. Kehut noin mainiossa blogissa ovat hienoja. On ollut kiva bongata kommenteista uusia lukijoita ja uusia blogeja. Olen ollut ihan hymynaamana. Jatkan englanninkielisten tiivistelmien tarjoamista. Innoissani tuunasin ulkoasuakin omalla naamallani ja pienell\u00e4 blurbilla.<\/p>\n<p>K\u00e4sity\u00f6rintamalla mustavalkoisesta villasta on kovaa vauhtia tulossa hihaton p\u00e4\u00e4llysmekko. Kangas on leikattu. Kaksi metri\u00e4 riitti pienell\u00e4 py\u00f6rittelyll\u00e4. Palaset on nyt yhdistelty. Seuraavana ohjelmassa saumojen k\u00e4\u00e4ntely\u00e4 ja mekon sovittelua. Olen suunnitellut mekkoon kaikenlaisia pieni\u00e4 yksityiskohtia &#8211; saa n\u00e4hd\u00e4 mik\u00e4 n\u00e4ist\u00e4 suunnitelmista toteutuu.<\/p>\n<p>###<\/p>\n<p><strong>Of Fish, Visitors and Other Nice things <\/strong><br \/>\n<em>This week I went to see <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hanneleklemettila.fi\/5\">Hannele Klemettil\u00e4<\/a> give a lecture on the use of fish in medieval food. The lecture was short, yet interesting.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Most things were already familiar, but I did manage to pick up a few interesting tidbits, like there being about 140 fasting days each year. Klemettil\u00e4 has recently published a nice book on medieval cuisine (in Finnish). The most interesting thing was how she pointed out the almost astonishing similarity of recipes in actual medieval cookbooks from different countries. She claims that culinary influence travelled far in the middle ages.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Meanwhile, Neulakko has experienced a great surge of foreign visitors due to<a href=\"http:\/\/m-silkwork.blogspot.com\/2009\/03\/random.html\"> Isis&#8217; mention of Neulakko in (the fabulous) Medieval Silkwork<\/a>. (that blog actually was one of my big inspirations to start this site.) I&#8217;ve been all smiles about this and the nice comments people have left. I&#8217;ve found new interesting blogs via these comments, which is also great.\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;m definately sticking to writing the summaries now.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>On the project front the black and white surcot is progressing. I&#8217;ve cut the pieces and sewn the dress together. Now it&#8217;s time to fell the seams, do a little fitting and start fiddling with some interesting details I&#8217;ve been planning.
