Taas on se aika vuodesta, kun Turku palaa keskiajalle ja Iloinen Joutsen on paikalla!\u00c2\u00a0Olin markkinoilla vain torstain ja perjantain, koska en halua olla poikasesta erossa yht\u00e4\u00e4n pidemp\u00e4\u00e4n. T\u00e4ss\u00e4 lomakuviani lyhyelt\u00e4 visiitilt\u00e4ni. Kiitos ja pus kaikille, oli kiva n\u00e4hd\u00e4 tuttuja pitk\u00e4st\u00e4 aikaa.<\/p>\n

It’s that time of year again – Turku goes medieval with the annual medieval market and Merry Swan goes to market. I was there only on Thursday and Friday, because I can’t really be away from the small person that much yet. Here are some snapshots from my short visit. All in all it was lovely to see people, it had been too long!<\/p>\n

Markkinaomenan sy\u00f6nti – meitsie. Markkinoiden perinteinen ruokaympyr\u00e4 koostuu puoliksi omenoista ja puoliksi manteleista. Muutenkin meno oli perinteinen: oli sahtitupaa, niit\u00e4 puolalaisia kauppiaita, tuttuja suomalaisia kauppiaita, markkinan\u00e4ytelm\u00e4\u00e4 ja tietenkin meid\u00e4n oma r\u00e4\u00e4t\u00e4likojumme, joka koostui ty\u00f6n\u00e4yt\u00f6skatoksesta ja kauppateltasta. Aika toimiva yhdistelm\u00e4!<\/p>\n

Suosikkikeskiaikab\u00e4ndini R\u00e4ikk\u00e4 julkaisi uuden levyn.<\/a> Se on hilpe\u00e4 ja sis\u00e4lt\u00e4\u00e4 monta jo tutuksi tullutta hitti\u00e4 kuten munalaulun ja sen yhden \u00c2\u00a0 hanhenkaulasta kertovan.<\/p>\n

Candied apple -selfie! Traditional market food consists 50% of candied apples, 50% of candied almonds. In other ways the market had all the traditional elements: there was the polish guys, the play and the alehouse – and of course our own tailor shop, which consisted of a working area under a sunhade and a shop in a small tent. A pretty functional combo, I think!<\/p>\n

My favourite medieval band R\u00e4ikk\u00e4 has a new album<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0out! It includes many of their hits – and comes with an english translation too. Buy it and know what the soft and supple necks of geese are best for!<\/p>\n

Minulla\u00c2\u00a0oli markkinoilla samat vanhat vaatteet. Uutta oli ainoastaan se, ett\u00e4 ohimoletit olivat pitk\u00e4st\u00e4 aikaa omaa tukkaa ja ennen niin hyvin istunut vaaleanpunainen mekko on nyt l\u00f6psyv\u00e4n l\u00f6ys\u00e4. Sit\u00e4 on r\u00e4\u00e4t\u00e4l\u00f6it\u00e4v\u00e4 kasaan.<\/p>\n

My outfit was pretty much the same old stuff. The only new things were that my own hair is long enough to wear in templar braids and that my dear previously very well fitting pink dress is now super loose. I have to take it in.<\/p>\n

Superkiinnostavaa! Ylip\u00e4\u00e4ns\u00e4 odotan Kirjavaisen v\u00e4it\u00f6skirjaa keskiajan Turun tekstiileist\u00e4 aivan intopiukeana.<\/p>\n

We went to the TUCEMEMs seminar to listen to Heini Kirjavainen’s paper on the dress relic found in Turku cathedral. It has most likely been a dress worn by a statue of a saint. Super interesting! I’m anxiously waiting for her doctorate on medieval textile finds from Turku.<\/p>\n

After the market it’s a hard days night and we’ve been working like a dog.<\/p>\n

We usually come together and have a good meal in our favourite place in Turku. When we walked back through the quiet streets we saw an opportunity for some pop culture references. I am, however, not the walrus.<\/p>\n
