This technigue is very evident in the ever-inspiring effigies of\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Katherine_Mortimer,_Countess_of_Warwick\">Katherine Mortimerin<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0and \u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.westminster-abbey.org\/our-history\/royals\/burials\/edward-iii-and-philippa-of-hainault\">Philippa of Hainault<\/a>. I look at those two so often. I want to go see Katherine in real life sometime! Philippa I could have visited the last time I was in London, but the pricey entrance to Westminster Abbey gave me a sudden bout of scrooginess and I didn&#8217;t go. Which I now regret. Mental note: don&#8217;t spend all your money in London bookstores. (&lt;-hah, as if)<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, Philippa has inspired a way to finish off a spiral lacing. If you look at the picture above, you can see a round shape near the top of the lacing. I thought it does look like a brooch, so I tried wearing mine that way. Turns out it is wonderfully practical, and I have rarely been seen out and about without a brooch right there. I push the tongue of my brooch though the evenly set holes at the top. It keeps the neckline even and keeps it from pulling open. And there is much less need for a complicated knot to keep the lacing hole in place!<\/p>\n<p>ps.
