Olen aika nihke\u00e4 joululahjojen suhteen: mielest\u00e4ni en tarvitse mit\u00e4\u00e4n ja se mit\u00e4 tarvitsen on sen verran erikoista, ett\u00e4 sit\u00e4 on muiden vaikea ostaa. Siksi yleens\u00e4 pyyd\u00e4nkin, ettei pukki toisi mit\u00e4\u00e4n. Toisaalta saatan joulun ja veronpalautuksen kunniaksi ostaa itselleni jotain, jos jotain sopivaa tulee eteen. Keskiaikajuttujen hankkiminen on siin\u00e4 mieless\u00e4 kivaa, ett\u00e4 samalla tulee tukeneeksi k\u00e4sity\u00f6yritt\u00e4ji\u00e4.<\/p>\n

T\u00e4n\u00e4 vuonna tuli tehty\u00e4 huisit kaksi todella mieluista hankintaa.<\/p>\n

Kavereiden kanssa tilasimme kimpassa Puolasta (t\u00e4\u00e4lt\u00e4<\/a>) k\u00e4sikudottua ja kasviv\u00e4rj\u00e4tty\u00e4 kangasta, joka oli joulun kunniaksi tarjouksessa. K\u00e4sinkudottu ja kasviv\u00e4rj\u00e4tty kangas on semmoinen pitk\u00e4\u00e4n mieless\u00e4 l\u00e4ikkynyt haave – kun tilaisuus tuli ostaa j\u00e4m\u00e4er\u00e4 t\u00e4mm\u00f6ist\u00e4 komeaa toimikasta (joka muistuttaa Herjolfsnesin kankaita eriv\u00e4risine loimineen ja kuteineen), oli tilaisuuteen tartuttava vaikken tied\u00e4k\u00e4\u00e4n viel\u00e4 mit\u00e4 kankaasta teen. Yleens\u00e4 noudatan periaatettani siit\u00e4, ett\u00e4 ensin on idea ja sitten vasta kangas!<\/p>\n

Toinen hankinta on t\u00e4m\u00e4 pikkiriikkinen joutsenkoru Darkridge Jewelsilt\u00e4<\/a>, jonka inspiraationa on toiminut keskiajan koruista kenties ihanin: Dunstable Swan<\/a> Jewel. T\u00e4t\u00e4 k\u00e4yt\u00e4n hienoista hienoimman asukokonaisuuteni kanssa ja se sopii minulle, sill\u00e4 tykk\u00e4\u00e4n joutsenista – Iloisesta Joutsenesta, m\u00f6kkirannan joutsenista ja kaikenlaisista muistakin joutsenista – mik\u00e4li sit\u00e4 joku Neulakon lukija ei ole viel\u00e4 huomannut.<\/p>\n

Ja mit\u00e4 tulee uuteen vuoteen, olen ajatellut pyrki\u00e4 olemaan aktiivisempi p\u00e4ivitysten suhteen – tehd\u00e4 enemm\u00e4n t\u00e4mm\u00f6isi\u00e4 pieni\u00e4 ja lyhyit\u00e4 juttuja pidempien p\u00e4ivitysten ohelle. Yksi uusi ohjekin on tulossa, joten pysyk\u00e4\u00e4 kuulolla!<\/p>\n

I’m pretty difficult when it comes to Christmas presents: I don’t think I really need anything and then things that I do want are kind of odd and hard to come by. So usually I just wish that I get nothing from Santa. Then again, come Christmas and – more importantly perhaps – tax returns, I might get myself something I really want if I come across it. I like spending on medieval things because it also gives me an opportunity to support small businesses and craftspeople.<\/p>\n

This year I found two really lovely things. (pictured above)<\/p>\n

This first one is a – tadaaa! – naturally dyed and handwoven wool twill that I got from Poland (here<\/a>), together with some friends (who got different weaves in different colours). Being the rests of a bigger piece this was on sale. Handwoven naturally dyed fabric is something I have dreamed about working with for long – so when this opportunity presented itself I had to go for it. Especially since the weave is very reminiscent of the twills in Herjolfsnes, and the different colours in warp and weft. I’m not sure what this will become eventually – that’s against my principle of first getting the idea and only then the fabric – but with this one I was happy to make the exception.<\/p>\n

The tiny swan jewel comes from Darkridge Jewels <\/a>and is inspired by probably the most fabulous piece of medieval jewelry – the Dunstable Swan Jewel<\/a>. I will wear it with my poshest outfits and it suits me well since I really like swans – the Merry Swan, the swans that live close to my summer cottage and swans in general really – in case some of you readers had missed that.<\/p>\n

And about the new year – I intend to try to post more often. I’ll make more short posts like this since not everything requires an essay. There will be those long posts and at least one new tutorial coming up as well, so stay tuned!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
