Uusi r\u00f6yhel\u00f6huntu on valmis! T\u00e4m\u00e4 ei ole se se aiemmin aloitettu megar\u00f6yhel\u00f6<\/a> (se on viel\u00e4 kesken). T\u00e4m\u00e4 projekti alkoi it\u00e4\u00e4 mieless\u00e4ni kes\u00e4ll\u00e4, kun koko ajan satoi. Sen takia en voinut pit\u00e4\u00e4 r\u00f6yhel\u00f6it\u00e4ni, sill\u00e4 hevi-t\u00e4rkk\u00e4ys ja sades\u00e4\u00e4 eiv\u00e4t k\u00e4y yksiin. Viimeist\u00e4\u00e4n Visbyss\u00e4, kun n\u00e4in Kapitelhusg\u00c3\u00a5rdenissa (samalla kun kiersin sadevett\u00e4 omasta hunnustani) t\u00e4m\u00e4n Cathrinin<\/a> upean hunnun, jota -tadaa- ei tarvinnut t\u00e4rk\u00e4t\u00e4, p\u00e4\u00e4tin puuttua asiaan. T\u00e4st\u00e4 hunnusta ei tullut yht\u00e4 pient\u00e4 ja siev\u00e4\u00e4. Vaikka yritin tehd\u00e4 pient\u00e4, tuli t\u00e4mm\u00f6inen suuri ja muhkea.\u00c2\u00a0 Ep\u00e4ilen sukuvikaa, sill\u00e4 t\u00e4dill\u00e4ni on sama ongelma korvapuustien leivonnassa. Mutta toisaalta, pieni muhkeus ei haittaa pullassa eik\u00e4 r\u00f6yhel\u00f6ss\u00e4k\u00e4\u00e4n.<\/p>\n

T\u00e4m\u00e4n villin ja asettelemattoman r\u00f6yhel\u00f6n hyvi\u00e4 puolia on t\u00e4rkk\u00e4\u00e4m\u00e4tt\u00f6myyden lis\u00e4ksi sen muunneltavuus. Se taipuu moniin niist\u00e4 muodoista, jossa r\u00f6yhel\u00f6it\u00e4 keskiajalla k\u00e4ytettiin. (Kannattaa muuten katsoa Isis Sturtewagen<\/a>in tutkimuksia aiheesta!)<\/p>\n

Pakkohan sit\u00e4 oli tietenkin kokeilla.<\/p>\n

Ylh\u00e4\u00e4ll\u00e4 huntu U-muodossa, ilman lettej\u00e4 ja sitten lettien kanssa. Pahoittelen kuvanlaatua, mutta omalta k\u00e4sivaralta iPhonen etukameralla haaleassa marraskuun valossa ei t\u00e4m\u00e4n parempia saanut.<\/p>\n

My new frilled veil is finished! It isn’t the mega<\/a>frill I started earlier this year (it’s still under construction). This project began brewing in my head during the summer, when it rained all the time and I couldn’t wear my frills, since heavy-duty starch and moisture don’t go together that well. Then in Visby, there was that lecture at Kapitelhusg\u00c3\u00a5rden where (while squeezing rain water out of my own lame non-frilled veil) I saw this lovely veil, which didn’t need starching, by and on Cathrin.<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0Edit: Go here to read a blog post <\/a>about it.<\/p>\n

Mine didn’t turn out to so cute – it’s rather poofy and big. This keeps happening. I want to make small frills and they turn out huge instead. I suspect this runs in the family, since my aunt has similar issues when baking cinnamon rolls. But then again there really isn’t anything wrong with massive pastries or frills for that matter.<\/p>\n

One of the perks of this wild and unset frill is it’s versatility. It can be set in many of the ways familiar from effigies and other sources. (See Isis Sturtewagen’s research<\/a> for interesting types and typifications.)<\/p>\n

This I of course had to try.<\/p>\n

In the first picture, there is the veil in all of it’s U-shaped goodness, both with and wihtout braids. I’m sorry about the poor quality of the pictures, but this is what you get with a handheld iPhone camera in the darkness of finnish November afternoons.<\/p>\n

Sitten piti kokeilla, milt\u00e4 r\u00f6yhel\u00f6 n\u00e4ytt\u00e4\u00e4 toisen hunnun alla. R\u00f6yhel\u00f6hunnun alle on my\u00f6s puettu myssyn p\u00e4\u00e4lle alushuntu tukikerrokseksi ja tuomaan volyymia p\u00e4\u00e4hineeseen.<\/p>\n

Then I had to try how the frilled veil under a simple veil -look worked out. In these pictures I’m also wearing a veil under the frilled and over my cap. It gives a nice base to pin things onto and gives the entire headdress some volume.<\/p>\n

Sitten kreisiosastolle: erikoinen O-huntu leteill\u00e4, huntu kera otsapannan tai kruunun ja lopuksi jopa ns. kleeblett-kruseler, jossa r\u00f6yhel\u00f6 on nostettu kiekuraksi p\u00e4\u00e4n p\u00e4\u00e4lle! O-huntua saattaisin sen kaikessa kummallisuudessa joskus k\u00e4ytt\u00e4\u00e4kin, otsapanta (ainakin ilman koristeita) tuntuu v\u00e4h\u00e4n pocahontasille, kruunu katoaa hilpe\u00e4sti r\u00f6yhel\u00f6\u00f6n (toista se on isokruunuisemmalla Tanskan kuningattarella<\/a>) ja viimeinen tyyli.. no se ei oikeastaan ajoitukaan 1300-luvulle. Fiu.<\/p>\n

Then we get crazy: the odd O-shaped frill, the frill with a headband or coronet and to top it off the so called kleeblatt-kruseler, where the frill sits on the top of the head in a big poof. The O-veil I guess I could use in all it’s oddity. The headband (at least when it’s plain) made me feel a bit too much like Pocahontas. The coronet fantastically disappears into the frills (at least if you are not queen of Denmark<\/a>) and the kleeblatt… doesnt’ actually date to the 14th century. Phew!<\/p>\n

U-muotoinen huntu leteill\u00e4 ja leukaliinalla on suosikki ja eniten omalla mukavuusaluella. Mutta oli n\u00e4idenkin kuvien ottaminen melko hysteerisen hupaisaa puuhaa.<\/p>\n

Wearing it as a U with the braids and the wimple is my favourite style – and it remains within my comfort zone.\u00c2\u00a0 But taking even these pics was quite hysterical!<\/p>\n
