Hyv\u00e4\u00e4 huntukangasta eli mahdollisimman ohutta pellavaa, hamppua, eri ohutta villaa tai jopa silkki\u00e4 kannattaa varata noin metrin pala, mik\u00e4li kangas on 150cm leve\u00e4\u00e4. Se riitt\u00e4\u00e4 leukaliinaan ja huntuun. Muista esipest\u00e4 kangas kutistumisen varalta. Varsinkin leukaliina kaipaa pesua suhteellisen usein. Siksi kannattaakin tehd\u00e4 useampi leukaliina huntua kohti.<\/p>\n

Leikkaa kangas kaavakuvan osoittamalla tavalla hunnuksi ja leukaliinaksi. Huntua varten leikkaa 1x1m neli\u00f6. Leukaliina syntyy j\u00e4m\u00e4palasta, eli 5o cm x 1m kaistaleesta. Jos metrin pituus tuntuu liian pitk\u00e4lt\u00e4, nappaa pala p\u00e4\u00e4st\u00e4 pois. 5. Ta-daa, py\u00f6re\u00e4 huntu! Huolittele hunnun reunat, esimerkiksi pienell\u00e4 ja huomaamattomalla helmapistolla tai tekem\u00e4ll\u00e4 rullap\u00e4\u00e4rme. Yrit\u00e4 pit\u00e4\u00e4 pistot huomaamattomina ja p\u00e4\u00e4rme kapoisena.<\/p>\n

The size of the veil is a matter of taste. I like big veils because \u00c2\u00a0you can fold and pin them into so many different styles. You will need a piece of 100cm x 150 cm of good quality fabric – white linen, hemp, silk, perhaps wool. Go as thin as you can and pick a fabric with a nice drape. This will be enough to make a veil and a wimple. Prewash the fabric before cutting and hemming, note that especially the wimples need washing fairly often. It makes sense to make more than one wimple per veil.<\/p>\n
Things you will need:<\/p>\n
\n- 1m of 150cm wide white fabric. (see above)<\/li>\n
- Thin linen or silk thread for hemming the veil<\/li>\n
- pins, measuring tape, sharp scissors<\/li>\n
- your sewing kit<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Cut your fabric in 2 – a 1x1m square \u00c2\u00a0(veil) and a 50 cm x 1 m rectangle (wimple) as you can see in the first picture above. If you feel that the 1 m is an excessive length for the wimple, trim it into a shorter one. It is not necessarily too long, but like veils, wimples are also a matter of taste. Also, if you like to wear low-cut styles, you could make the wimple a bit wider – about 60 cm. Don’t add too much though, otherwise you get a bulky neckline. Alternatively, you can keep the wimple in place with strategically placed dress pins, like in this picture.\u00c2\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\nNow for making a round veil. The pictures tell more than words, but here is a verbal walkthrough, too. (I also realise that I have never ever written about folding<\/em> in English. I hope to make at least some sense.)<\/p>\n1. Fold the big square twice, making a smaller square.<\/p>\n
2. Fold this small square diagonally, making a triangle.<\/p>\n
3&4. Secure the folds with pins. Round off the other corner (the one with the open ends), mark with pins, cut off using sharp scissors. I stress the sharpness of the scissors because you need to cut through several layers of fabric.<\/p>\n
5. Ta-dah, a round veil! Hem the edges – using hem stitch or make a rolled hem. Try to make the stitches almost invisible and keep the hem narrow.<\/p>\n
6. Marvel at how little excess fabric there is. Enough to make a very small cap for a small head perhaps.<\/p>\n
